Tweens & Teens
Umigo will provide an alternative and active challenge for local youth. In a controlled and safe environment, kids can heighten their skills, coordination, self-reliance, responsibility, confidence and discipline within leagues and programs designed just for them.

For kids to participate, a legal guardian will need to read and sign the liability waiver on behalf of the minor (any person under the age of 18).  You can find the release document here.  We prefer that you come and register your licensed drivers and electronically sign the liability form.  After that is accomplished, your minor licensed drivers may participate at will without your need to be present.

If, however, your child is under sixteen and not a licensed driver, we request that the legal guardian is present during their participation.  Umigo minimum age and height to be a candidate for participation is 10 years old and 4'10" and taller.  In order to participate, any unlicensed drivers are required to be certified by Umigo staff.  The best way to be certified is to take our Junior Certification Class, described below.  If your child is an experienced go kart driver, then a quick certification may be in order.  Please check with Umigo staff when you are at the center to discuss this program.

Our Junior Racer Certification programs are available NOW and are organized as a reservation-only first-come basis.
Call us @ 925-373-RACE (7223) to sign up or for more details.

Certification

Umigo Karting is serious racing.  To ensure the safety of all participants, anyone that does not understand this concept will not be allowed to participate. All individuals that meet our size and height requirements and are not yet a licensed driver must take a course to participate in regular racing and practice laps.  Umigo staff will teach the basics of racing, safety rules of racing and the responsibilities therein.  During this class, the participant will experience around 90 minutes of seat time in the kart.  This ensures the confidence levels required in open racing.  The course partcipants will be taught how to drive the Umigo karts and will be observed for kart control and safety awareness.  Afterwhich, the participants who pass this certification will be allowed to join the members in track activity.

Passing can include two levels:
Junior Racer:  Pass the course and is safe to drive from the hours of 11am to 6pm.  If Junior Racer reserves and fills an entire heat, he or she may race anytime.

Adult Racer:  Pass the course and safely maintains a 50 sec lap time or faster while in solid control of the kart.  Control means virtually no crashing into the walls or other karts, strong listening skills and strong awareness of other drivers and Umigo Staff instructions.  For this level of passing there will be no restrictions on racing by time of day.

Certification Classes will consist of the following topics:
  • What kart racing is and what it is not (safety and the reality of racing)
  • How to operate the kart and how it works
  • How to drive the kart in a crowd and what to watch for
  • How to drive fast
  • On-track follow the leader learning the line of the track
  • Solo (controlled speed) track time for visual readiness assessment
  • Solo qualifying: safely achieving a cut off lap time = Jr driver license issuance

Leagues

Kids like to compete like the rest of us...why not let them?  All certified racers will have a chance to compete in weight based classes.  At last, competition for kids that is fair....no matter how early or late that growth spurt occurred!  Our leagues will be organizing soon for mid-Summer action!  Contact us at feedback@umigoracing.com if you have an interest in league activity.

Physics of Karting

Umigo is intrigued by the concept of learning while having fun.   This course will combine valuable lessons of science with an activity that kids will be eager to try.  Umigo is working with local science experts to develop a syllabus that kids will not forget. What a concept.
